Practical guide / fictional examples

Shorten an Amazon title without cutting the product identity.

These fictional examples show a repeatable cutting order for drafts whose title length exceeds 75 characters. They do not prove that the remaining wording fits every category.

ORDER 01

Cut persuasion before identity

Start with sale language, repeated benefits and duplicate product nouns. Keep the brand, product type and the few attributes a buyer needs to distinguish the item. Verify every retained size, material, count and compatibility statement against the product record.

Draft to shorten

Northline Stainless Steel Insulated Travel Mug with Lid, Premium Leak Resistant Coffee Cup, 20 Ounce, Midnight Blue

Fact-preserving cut

Northline Insulated Travel Mug with Lid, 20 oz, Midnight Blue

Keeps brand, product type, lid, capacity and color; removes subjective quality language and duplicated material detail.

ORDER 02

Keep the buyer’s distinguishing facts

Draft to shorten

Harbor Home Extra Soft Luxury Cotton Bath Towel Set for Bathroom, Highly Absorbent Quick Dry Towels, Six Piece, White

Fact-preserving cut

Harbor Home Cotton Bath Towel Set, 6 Piece, White

Preserves the set, material, quantity and color. Claims such as “luxury,” “highly absorbent” and “quick dry” need evidence and are not necessary for identity.

Draft to shorten

BrightArc LED Desk Lamp for Home Office with Adjustable Arm, Multiple Brightness Levels, USB Charging Port, Matte Black

Fact-preserving cut

BrightArc LED Desk Lamp, Adjustable Arm, USB Port, Matte Black

Retains the concrete features that separate the item. A brightness-level count should be added only if the source record supplies it.

BOUNDARY

Do not replace facts with cleaner-sounding claims

Draft to shorten

Trailmark Lightweight Hiking Daypack for Men and Women, Water Resistant Outdoor Backpack with Laptop Sleeve, 22 Liter, Green

Fact-preserving cut

Trailmark Hiking Daypack with Laptop Sleeve, 22 L, Green

The shorter version avoids asserting water resistance or audience fit unless those claims are supported. “Lightweight” is also removed because it needs a weight reference.

A shorter title is not automatically safe, approved or complete. Media categories and product types can have different requirements, and title length alone cannot confirm claim evidence, catalog identifiers or Seller Central status.

FINAL PASS

Recount, then run a separate claim review

  1. 1. Count the complete draft, including spaces and punctuation.
  2. 2. Verify the category and any required identifiers.
  3. 3. Compare every retained attribute with the source product record.
  4. 4. Review comparative, safety and performance language separately.
  5. 5. Save the final approved source facts with the draft.
